Ademar José Gevaerd was a respected Ufologist who devoted his career to doing field investigations. He specialized in investigating UFO cases in the Pantanal and the Amazon regions and in exposing the military’s secret files on UFOs.

Thanks to the institutions he founded, he put Brazil and its UFOlogy community in front of the world, making the country a sought-after destination for UFO investigations and discussions.

His Early Interest in UFOs

A. J. Gevaerd couldn’t recall exactly at what age he started his interest in UFOs, maybe before he turned 10, but he would spend hours reading local and international newspaper articles, always searching for news related to UFOs.

He would cut and collect newspaper clippings and write notes about them, which would reach more than 20,000 people later.

Eventually, he saw the interconnection between these UFO sightings. For example, he noticed that one incident reported in the local newspaper was similar to the one in the international newspaper. This led him to conclude that the phenomenon was global.

His UFO Experience

There had been many UFO tales and accounts regarding the U.S. military base Area 51, and A. J. Gevaerd had one of his own.

Back in 1992, he was invited to give a lecture at a conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The day before the lecture, he took the opportunity to explore Area 51 and investigate some cases. With him were his wife and a couple of friends.

As they drove back to the city late into the night, he saw an unidentified object following them. It stopped if they stopped and drove if they drove. It lasted for almost 40 minutes.

After that encounter, he returned multiple times to study the scene, but even then, he couldn’t determine what this unidentified object was.

His Views on the UFO Phenomenon

A. J. Gevaerd believed that the phenomenon happened because we were being visited by another form of intelligence: the extraterrestrials.

For him, extraterrestrials didn’t look the same as those portrayed in pop culture, with tentacles, scales, and disproportionate body sizes.

Instead, they looked just like us humans, with a head, a torso, two arms, and two legs. They walked and interacted with us every day. We wouldn’t notice anything amiss if we encountered each other on the street because they weren’t physically different from us.

He also stated that throughout history, we could see that these extraterrestrials visited the Earth regularly, based on the contributions they left behind—for example, the pyramids of Egypt.

Their presence alone suggested that this might be, in his words, “a sign that one day we’ll be part of a bigger space group.”

His UFO Case Investigations

In his 47 years of research, A. J. Gevaerd had done more than 800 field investigations on Brazil’s UFO cases.

Two of his high-profile cases were the UFO sighting at the Morenão Stadium in Campo Grande and the Operation Prato in Colares, Pará.

The Morenão Stadium UFO Sighting

A. J. Gevaerd heard about the UFO sighting that happened during a football match at the Morenão Stadium in Campo Grande on March 6, 1982.

According to eyewitnesses, a cylindrical object flew above the stadium, radiating strong lights, and stayed there for a short while.

When the news came out, people at the time had differing opinions. Those who were there believed it was a flying saucer. For those who weren’t, they believed it was something else, like an airplane.

So, A. J. Gevaerd investigated it. In his research, he later found that a similar event happened at the same time throughout Mato Grosso do Sul and neighboring countries like Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

After a series of analyses, he concluded that what the people saw that day was a UFO.

Operation Prato

Operation Prato, or Operation Saucer (1977), was considered one of Brazil’s mysterious UFO cases.

Wanting to know further details, A. J. Gevaerd requested an interview with Col. Uyrangê De Hollanda Lima, the man who led the operation.

From that interview, he learned the following (in verbatim):

The UFO had been bothering the fishermen of Colares, Pará.
A strange light attacked the locals, leaving burn spots on their person: for men, they were hit on the arm or leg; for women, on the left breast.
The locals started to call this event “Chupa-Chupa” (“chupa” is suck in English).
The Air Force only saw blinking lights at night and wasn’t certain what these lights specifically were.
The Air Force took over 500 photographs, most of which showed only bright lights.
Col. Uyrangê De Hollanda Lima tried using a radio-scope to analyze the photographs they took. He noticed that a little cylinder was present in every photo, which looked like a probe.
The Air Force went to the laboratory for confirmation: it was really a probe.
Since then, the Air Force started using special filters, such as infrared and ultraviolet, to photograph the unidentified object.

His Investigations on Crop Circles

A. J. Gevaerd spent the last 12 years researching crop circles. He saw these crop circles as coded messages from extraterrestrials.

His research led him to different parts of England, where crop circles were rampant, and other countries, including his home country, Brazil.

One of the places he and his team visited was the Alton Barnes fields in South England.

The crop circle site was approximately 20 meters in diameter. It had three spheres, which were 6 meters, 3 meters, and 1.5 meters in diameter, respectively.

They also found traces of radioactivity there.

But what amazed them was that the plants bordering the area, which they expected to be damaged, remained intact.

His Contribution to the UFO/UAP Community

A. J. Gevaerd certainly left his footprints in the UFO/UAP community. It was thanks to him that UFO enthusiasts and the government (at least in Brazil) had come together in their shared interests in UFOs.

First World Forum of Ufology, 1997

With A. J. Gevaerd leading the initiative, he and his committee, the CBU, organized the First World Forum of Ufology. It was held from December 7–14, 1997 in Brasilia, Brazil.

The forum drew the attention of UFO enthusiasts, government authorities, and scientific communities alike. Ufologists from around the globe were invited to present lectures and facilitate debates. The aim was to discuss the rising number of UFO phenomena worldwide and the latest news on UFO research.

Its success led to the creation of other world forums, including:

UFOs: Freedom of Information Now, 2004

Brazil might have been the first country to admit that UFOs existed publicly in 1954, but it wasn’t until April 2009 that its government granted public access to documents containing UFO information.

All that was thanks to A. J. Gevaerd and the CBU, who initiated the campaign called “UFOs: Freedom of Information Now” on April 15, 2004.
