“In 60 years, on a distant planet, the son of a Chinese peasant will be born.”
This was what Meng Zhaoguo claimed the aliens told him when he was invited to their base. If you’re wondering who this Chinese peasant is, it’s no other than the man himself.
The Meng Zhaoguo Incident is a UFO event like no other. When most only observe unidentified flying objects or see bulbous heads from afar, Meng, the event’s key witness, not only claimed to have spoken with aliens, but he has also slept with one.
A story like this was bound to catch everyone’s attention, and it did. When it first came out, Meng immediately became a celebrity within his village. However, his popularity also caught the skeptics’ suspicions, and soon after, the event became a debated subject.
What Is the Meng Zhaoguo Incident About?
The onset of the Meng Zhaoguo Incident occurred when people began seeing a silvery-white unidentified object at the Hongqi Forest Farm in Heilongjiang Province around the end of May 1994. However, it would not be until June that things became more chaotic due to the series of events involving Meng.
Who Is Meng Zhaoguo?
Throughout the multiple interviews done with him, Meng Zhaoguo has been consistently described as a simple farmer or woodcutter who has always appeared trustworthy.
Although he had only finished up to fifth grade, he wasn’t someone whom the other farmers would see creating a story to benefit from it. So, when he first shared what happened, not only were the people at the forest farm shocked, but they were also conflicted on what to believe.
Timeline of the Incident
- June 7, 1994: Meng Zhaoguo and his nephew-in-law saw the unidentified object near the mountain and investigated it.
- June 8: They assembled a group of 30 other farmers to view the site, but this was postponed due to heavy rain.
- June 9: The group set out to investigate.
- June 10: Meng discovered a mark on his forehead.
- Days later, he claimed a female alien visited his home and slept with him.
- July 16: He was invited to the aliens’ base.
- 2016: Years later, he claimed that he was revisited by the aliens and was given a piece of the comet that struck their planet.
Before we begin dissecting what Meng claimed to have happened, note that with the popularity of his story, it’s unsurprising that multiple versions of it would be circulating online. After browsing through the stories, two primary versions can be concluded.
For this documentation, we will have the two versions narrated separately and labeled according to their source.
The World of Chinese Interview
This interview included the claim that before Meng and his nephew-in-law, Li Honghai, investigated an unidentified object, the other villagers had already seen it by the mountain.
On June 7, Meng and Li headed to the mountain, thinking that what they saw was a crashed helicopter, and they would get scraps from it. However, what they saw was unlike anything they had ever seen before.
Here’s how both men described it:
- It looked over 50 meters long and three meters tall.
- It resembled a helicopter without a propeller, with the larger part protruding like a frog’s eyes and a glass cover, while the smaller resembled a goldfish’s tail.
- It was white with a hint of yellow.
They moved closer to examine it, but when they were approximately 150 meters away, they allegedly felt a surge of electricity running through them, paralyzing them.
Later that night, Meng mentioned the situation in a conversation with the other farmers, and predictably, he was met with disbelief.
To prove that he was telling the truth, he invited the others to accompany him to the mountain the next day; however, the trip was delayed due to heavy rain.
The Events on June 9
A group of 30 farmers set out for the mountain at 7 AM. They were approximately 5km away when a series of strange events occurred:
- Meng looked through the binoculars and shouted, “I see it!” before falling to the ground in pain.
- Due to his condition, the group decided to split into two. One of the group continued searching the mountain while the other carried Meng to the forest clinic.
- The first group arrived at the site and found an overturned boulder, charred rocks, and a colored plastic sheet.
- The other group recounted Meng’s behavior in the clinic, describing that the man lay stiffly with his eyes glazed, tongue stiff, and his eyes moving rapidly from side to side.
- Some also recalled him foaming at the mouth and struggling violently, requiring five people to hold him down.
Meng’s condition improved later that day, but apparently, he continued exhibiting strange behaviors for over a month after. This included wandering in the street, unresponsive. By June 10, he also noticed a peculiar, purple-red, button-sized scar on his forehead.
Meng’s Side of the Story
However, Meng Zhaoguo claimed that he was conscious throughout the event, but they couldn’t hear him when he tried communicating with the group.
When he led the group up the mountain, he claimed to have seen a strange man in black clothes through the binoculars. This man allegedly saw him, pointed something at him from afar, before a beam of light shot out. That was when Meng fell to the ground after feeling severely dizzy.
Meng also claimed that two aliens were present with them in the clinic:
- One was three meters tall, with its face covered with clothes, leaving only two bowl-sized eyes exposed.
- The other was a woman based on her body shape. Meng claimed she could feel his pain and eased it by pointing a finger at his head.
After his condition improved and he was given permission to leave, Meng claimed that the female alien followed him home, where he was able to observe her more closely. He described her body as feeling soft and shrinking to his touch.2
Huffpost Interview
In another interview, Meng Zhaoguo narrated a different version of what happened. Although he still claimed that a female alien slept with him, this version mentioned no group of 30 people investigating with him. Instead, this narrative was rather shorter.
In 1994, Meng claimed that he saw a metallic shimmer from the mountain. He thought that a helicopter had crashed and decided to scavenge for scraps. Arriving near the lip of the valley, he was spying the wreckage when something hit him in the forehead, knocking him out.
The next thing he knew, he was back home with no recollection of how he had arrived. A few nights later, that was when the female alien copulated with him.
What Happened that Night
A few nights after his first encounter, Meng Zhaoguo claimed that the female alien visited him again. He described her as:
- Three meters tall
- Had six fingers on each hand
- Floating through the wall of his house to enter
- Her thighs were coated in braided hair
He narrated that the alien levitated him above his bed while his wife and child were asleep below. She then proceeded to straddle his waist, and the whole experience lasted for three or four seconds before she disappeared back through the wall, and he floated back down.
Meng showed a two-inch-long scar on his thighs in one interview, claiming that the alien implanted capsules inside him to control his memory.
The Events After the Meng Zhaoguo Incident
Days after the main incident, aliens continued to visit Meng, and on July 16 at 10 PM, a male alien allegedly invited him to visit their base, where he:
- Found that there were 40 aircraft
- Communicated with the aliens in Chinese, and they told him that they came to Earth to seek refuge because Jupiter was about to be hit by a comet
- Saw the aliens holding electronic devices that looked like tiles
The aliens showed me a piece of crystal, through which I saw forests, icebergs, and fossil fuels. They told me about the current situation facing Earth’s resources and warned me about the importance of the environment.
While communicating with these beings, Meng also claimed that he became curious about the female alien who had visited him. However, they told him that it would be impossible to see her, and informed him that in 60 years, his son will be born on another planet.
Meng’s family also encountered some unexplainable events after Meng’s first encounter:
- His brother, Meng Zhaoyi, was taking care of Meng while he was sleeping, when the latter’s head allegedly turned 180°.
- His wife claimed that she saw an orchid emitting a “huge light” at night.
By 2016, the aliens visited Meng Zhaoguo for the last time, giving him a rock that they claimed was part of the comet that had hit their planet. Upon analysis, the material was found to be composed of an extremely rare metal: terbium.
Investigations and Explanations
Several UFO organizations expressed interest in investigating the Meng Zhaoguo Incident.
In October, a joint scientific expedition team was sent to the village to examine the landing site and Meng’s house. The group was a 10-member team consisting of members from:
- China UFO Research Association
- Beijing UFO Research Association
- Heilongjiang Science and Technology Commission
- Beijing Television
- Chinese Academy of Sciences
They were equipped with 29 pieces of equipment, but unfortunately, they found no conclusive evidence from the incident. However, despite having no proof, the team still credited some accuracy or truth to the story.
Supporting Arguments
- The statement that Meng Zhaoguo claimed the aliens told him they were seeking refuge on Earth because a comet was about to hit Jupiter coincided with an event that occurred a month after the Meng Zhaoguo Incident. Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 crashed into Jupiter in July 1994.
- Meng’s first encounter was deemed credible due to the consistency of the testimonies. Ten other villagers who were in the mountain that day to pick vegetables also corroborated that they saw a white object.
- The first chairman of the Beijing UFO Research Association, Wang Fangchen, claimed that they found scorch marks on the site, which they guessed was from an aircraft landing or taking off.
- A researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences also measured the radiation levels in Meng’s house and reported that the device went haywire, notably on the walls.
Counterarguments
The Heilongjiang Science and Technology Commission was among the organizations that firmly believed the incident to be fake, or at least, scientifically explainable.
Here are the explanations the organization released after its investigation:
- Meng had an illusion or was talking nonsense to become famous.
- There was no reliable evidence, including photos, to support the existence of the craft. The incident relied on people’s recollections, which could be mistaken.
- Someone could have turned the overturned boulder, and it might not have been a UFO takeoff that caused it.
- The charred rocks could be a result of natural collapse caused by sudden temperature changes in the mountains.
- The colorful plastic sheets might not be common materials found in the mountains, but they were common on Earth.
The organization also called out Meng Zhaoguo’s behavior throughout his interviews, claiming that his body language and gestures were almost like a skit. This drove them to conclude that the story must’ve been fabricated for the farmer to gain fame and wealth.
Lie Detector Test
We have invented aircraft, and we have landed on the moon. Why is it impossible that aliens are visiting us?
This was what Zhang Jingping, the head of the International Chinese UFO Association Sighting Investigation Department, stated after he led the research on the Meng Zhaoguo Incident. He also arranged for police to administer a lie detector test, which Meng passed in 2003.
This test was one of the events that sealed the credibility of the Meng Zhaoguo Incident and repaired Meng’s reputation after he had been discredited.
The Meng Zhaoguo Incident’s Significance in Ufology
The incident turned the mountain in Heilongjiang into a tourist spot for UFO enthusiasts, contributing to the area’s economic growth.
Since its establishment, many tourists have visited, bringing life to the formerly isolated place, and since then, numerous sightings have also been reported:
- November 12, 2005: Chief Economist of the Shanhetun Forestry Bureau, Xu Songshan, accompanied seven people to inspect the mountain. While taking photos, Xu suddenly shouted, “What’s that in the sky?” Everyone looked in the direction that he was pointing and saw a disc-shaped object hovering.
- July 10, 2012:Tourist Li Hui with her friends visited the mountain. At 3:42 PM, as they were taking photos, she felt a sensation behind her, “I looked back and saw a glowing but not very bright object, the size of an airplane, spinning forward as if there was a propeller rotating in the middle. It was very fast, only a few seconds.”
Why Is the Meng Zhaoguo Incident Still Debated Today?
The incident remains debated to this day due to conflicting interpretations of Meng’s testimony and the lack of evidence to support or refute the story. The existence of arguments and counterarguments presented by the organizations during their investigation also contributes to the division in people’s perceptions of the event.
